According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Meta is offering "millions of dollars" to companies such as Disney and A24 to produce "serial and standalone immersive video content" based on well-known IPs.

While the report notes that Meta's goal in introducing exclusive immersive video content is to attract users to purchase next year's headset devices—and this claim is almost certainly true—the base of the newly exposed Quest headset "Puffin" runs on the same Horizon OS.

The report states that the immersive video content will be exclusively owned by Meta, but producers may "sell the shows or films to other platforms" after a certain exclusivity period. This collaboration is facilitated through James Cameron's company Lightstorm Vision, whose goal is "to popularize stereoscopic technology across all visual media by enabling stereoscopic 3D content creation as seamlessly as traditional 2D content."

Specifically, Lightstorm Vision is developing tools to enable traditional entertainment productions to conduct 3D filming and distribution in a low-cost and simplified manner. Previously, Meta stated that its partnership with Lightstorm Vision would bring "world-class 3D entertainment experiences covering live sports events, concerts, movies, and TV series based on well-known IPs" to Horizon OS.
